What Is the CLAT Syllabus and Exam Pattern?

The CLAT UG syllabus covers five sections: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The CLAT 2027 exam is designed to test comprehension, reasoning, and aptitude skills required for legal education.

What Is the CLAT Exam Pattern?

According to the official CLAT 2027 pattern, the exam has 120 multiple-choice questions carrying 120 marks. Students get 2 hours to complete the paper, with 0.25 marks deducted for every incorrect answer.

The approximate section-wise distribution is:

• English Language: 22–26 questions

• Current Affairs & General Knowledge: 28–32 questions

• Legal Reasoning: 28–32 questions

• Logical Reasoning: 22–26 questions

• Quantitative Techniques: 10–14 questions

The syllabus focuses mainly on reading comprehension and reasoning. Legal Reasoning does not require prior knowledge of law, while Quantitative Techniques involves mathematical operations based on areas such as ratios, basic algebra, mensuration, and statistical estimation.
